Learn & Serve Grants

Those of us associated with the University of Georgia's League of Professional Schools, founded in 1989, are excited for the opportunity to team up with Georgia Learn and Serve. Through a Learn and Serve grant, League staff will collaborate, in an effort to build schools' service-learning capacity, with educators who were awarded school Learn & Serve grants. It's our intention that these educators will form a learning community that will break new ground in understanding how service learning can be incorporated into schools' curricular offerings and instructional strategies in such a way as to improve student learning. The lessons learned and the materials and processes created through this partnership will be shared not only with Georgia educators but also with educators from across the U.S. as well.

Georgia Learn & Serve Leaders' Institutes

From January through June of 2004, administrators and lead teachers from these selected schools, Learn and Serve ambassadors and staff, League co-directors and selected educators from League schools will gather for three, one-day institutes. The goal of these institutes will be to create a schoolwide plan for years two and three of the Learn and Serve grants by gaining common definitions and understandings, committing to goals and purposes, and forming on-going professional relationships.
