The
mission of the League is to promote the school as a democratic learning
community that is student-centered and focused on improving teaching
and learning for all.
The mission
is realized by schools implementing democratic
learning in classrooms through the use of a three-part school-renewal
framework.
The League
facilitates member schools’ implementation of democratic learning
practices by offering school teams a year-long professional development
cycle that consists of a Fall Institute,
Winter and Spring workshops, two on-site visits, networking between
member schools, principals’ consortium, access to listservs,
website, information retrieval
system, and unlimited telephone consultations with a League contact
person.
Team
members support each other and work towards making this work a schoolwide
effort by implementing the League's schoolwide
plan. Schools staying in the League over time will eventually
have a critical mass of teachers and administrators that have participated
in this cycle of professional development.
